Our Cause
The Operation Rescue initiative coalesced with a small group of volunteers who had either worked in Afghanistan or similar crisis situations or in various capacities in international settings through development, health and relief agencies and other United States government agencies. For some of us, this was very personal – with desperate phone calls and texts from friends and former colleagues coming every hour in those days leading up to the US final withdrawal. Friends whom we know, trust and with whom we worked in Afghanistan were desperate for a way to escape imminent capture and worse. As the days passed, the worst fears were realized, as dozens of those very people who had been asking for help were apprehended, raped, beaten and murdered. Their crime – they had worked with the US government, military or other organizations implementing projects supported by the US government. Others were simply targeted because of their ethnicity, their faith, or even simply gender - because they were women leaders in their communities who were not afraid to use and raise their voices for their causes. The situation very quickly became increasingly urgent for many and our joint commitment and resolve to make a difference was established.
Operation Rescue is managed under the umbrella of nPraxis International, a US-based nonprofit registered with the Tennessee Secretary of State.
Our
Commitment
Operation Rescue is committed to evacuating this diverse group of at-risk individuals from Afghanistan due to their support of allied forces or Western-funded NGOs. Most continue to be under severe threat after the withdrawal of the US presence from the country in 2021, and have identity including their citizenry, ethnicity, occupation, and religion that heighten their vulnerability. Many received death threats and are being hunted and remain on the run, moving from house to house and from town to town. All evacuees on our lists are vetted through individuals who have worked with them or know them well.
